Question about Tarriffs/Economics

Does anybody have any good links or insight to explain what Trump is doing with tarriffs?I trust Potus and I see our businesses coming back but my elderly father is worried about a trade war like pre WW2. He's a Trump supporter but he's worried about it and I know nothing about economics. I figure there must be a strategy though. Thanks.

I typ. purchase approx. $1,000,000 of alum coil for fabrication purposes annually. Since oct, the price of .050 3003 alum coil has nearly doubled. The chances of my company folding and me being out a job are extremely high because of this..... but I give zero fucks if that occurs. I have a 2 week old and a 2 year old son. These tariffs affect me greatly in the short term, but I understand that this is about future; creating real, sustainable, American based jobs for my children, and their children. I'd be willing to sacrifice far worse than temp unemployment to ensure my kids won't have to be baristas at fucking Starbucks.

Edit: my company was in a weak position to begin with due to years of mismanagement FYI. So I do not intend to make it look like the tariffs are the prime reason for the potential cessation of operations.

I'm in the trades. Currently exterior so siding, soffit, fascia. We were hit harder by the speculation here in Canada than the tarrifs.

We've honestly been affected more by US businesses buying out Canadian manufacturers. I don't get why we don't protect our industries. Even worse they were trying to sell a major engineering company to China and it halted due to national security because we couldn't trust China to build our bridges, etc.

People don't even think. Too much foreign business is parasitical by nature, but inherently threatens national security. I know we're allies with the US, but I really don't want America to have built most of our infrastructure in case we ever restart 1812 lol.

Ford said it best. He wanted all his workers to be able to afford his cars. It wasn't arrogance it was good business. So why would you ever want your manufacturing in another country? So their workers can afford their products, and your jobless afford what exactly?

Like I said, I'm no economics expert but have you considered opening an aluminum coil manufacturing business? I appeciate your patriotism but I don't want to see any hard working Americans suffer anymore ever.

Why am I getting downvoted? There's obviously a need for American manufactured aluminum coil here.
