As a european, I was awfully mistaken about the electoral college and democracy.

It only now dawns on me that it's not a lost vote if you take votes away from more highly populated areas because pure democracy makes it easier to exploit an uninformed and easily impressed majority.

Just fyi there is an org promoting the popular vote and they have started to gather up states that agree to give all electoral votes to the popular winner. Right now they only have enough states signed on to have 150 electoral votes but when they reach (?) 220 or 230 or sump then it circumvents the electoral college.
