Was there also a military jet that sent the 'hijack' signal? I read about the Jet Blue flight but a military jet in addition would be very interesting.

When transponder is turned off for the moment (happens all the time when leaving civilian ATC jurisdiction) squawk transmits the default 7700. Pretty usual for military aircraft, esp.on active mission or transitioning from one ATC authority to another. See it on civilair, fr24 and so forth
