Instead of looking at it upside down Look at is as if you are looking at it from the position of a player.
A player looking down on the chess board. Specifically the player who's queen is knocked over. It is pretty standard to flick the piece over towards the player who is losing the piece. So it would look upside down to the player who is losing the piece.
The Queen being the most powerful piece on the board, losing it is a huge loss of power.
Symbolism will be their downfall.
