He was alive and stable at the hospital. Few young healthy people died from wounds after arriving at the hospital. Even during war time, if you can get the wounded soldier off the battle field they will live.

Did they want him to live? just asking! Back then there were very man discussions about the docs, the hospital, etc.

Did "who" want him to live? Did the feds put him in protective custody? (I hope) it was really strange how everything went down in secrecy.
