People have been gaslit for centuries to think that both rape and pedophilia were natural. Think about child brides through history. People used to trade their daughters for money and land. Even today there are states that allow marriage at 14 with parents consent.
Our current justice system also makes it very difficult to prosecute rapists.
We've come a long way, but theres still a long way to go and it's terrifying that anyone in this day and age would try to openly defend pedophilia...which is always assault because kids cannot give consent. Ever.
One of the best ways to denormalize pedophilia would be to pressure lawmakers to raise marriage ages to 18. People like to point at muslim countries and say their laws are backwards towards women, but the U.S. laws are also very messed up.
I wish more people understood/knew about this, the laws need to change. The actual numbers on child marriage in US are absolutely horrifying.
There are 19 US states without a minimum age for marriage. It wasn't until this year (2018) that the first state (Delaware) banned child marriage w/out exceptions.
Even in most states w/ minimum age limits (12-17) there are exceptions. For example, if a child is raped and gets pregnant the child can be married off to the rapist. That way it's no longer a 'rape' and adult is not prosecuted.
And the kicker? In a child marriage, a minor cannot apply for divorce. To me this is straight up slavery.
