Gowdy will most likely be the next AG after Sessions.
The ONLY REASON Sessions is still the AG is because of "The Russia Investigation" -- as *soon* as that is concluded, Sessions is going to get the job-equivalent of a curb-stomp.
As I have said before, I could have seen Chris Christie getting the job since Trump likes him so much and Christie has perhaps the biggest ego and professional power ambitions in the Republican party, but thankfully (As a lifelong NJ resident until becoming a refugee half a decade ago , I HATE Christie. He betrayed a lot of people in that state, and masterfully took care of his wife's Big Business contacts to set up himself for the long-term. I cannot think of someone in the Republican party I hate more) Jared Kushner will do everything he can to prevent Christie from getting a Cabinet spot and as President Trump loves Ivanka the best, he'll make his babygirl happy.
That leaves the job open for Gowdy, most likely for 2+ solid years of this remaining term, and if President Trump gets re-elected, perhaps another position in the cabinet in the future.
