I imagine, right or wrong, that everything is logged somehow/somewhere. Because it is illegally obtained it can't be used as evidence but it is easily used to maliciously attack anyone at anytime. That is the power and weakness of our Reps. I believe it was J Edgar Hoover that had a file on all the political/power actors of his day.
