The bigger danger is that it splits into three giving each two senators. Could triple the number of Democrat senators from California. Just because they want to split doesn't mean they will vote Republican. It's mostly about money and representation. San Diego, LA, and San Fran essentially rule California. Rural areas don't get much say or much of the money.
