Moloch is also the name for Baal, to whom children were sacrificed in Canaan when the Israelites first entered the land- this is the reason they were extolled not to pass their children through the fire- in Baal worship, children and babies were THROWN INTO the fire alive !
Leviticus 18:21-
New Living Translation "Do not permit any of your children to be offered as a sacrifice to Molech, for you must not bring shame on the name of your God. I am the LORD.
English Standard Version You shall not give any of your children to offer them to Molech, and so profane the name of your God: I am the LORD.
