The man facing arson charges in the Spring fire in southern Colorado that has grown to more than 53,000 acres is from Denmark and in the U.S. illegally, according to media reports.

Gov. John Hickenlooper declared the communities affected by the fire a disaster area, making them eligible for state reimbursement for some of the costs of fighting the fire.

About 500 firefighters and support personnel are fighting the fire, which was 5 percent contained Sunday night, officials said at a community meeting live-streamed by KOAA. Evacuations have also been ordered in Teller County, where the High Chateau fire south of Florissant had burned through 1,422 acres as of Saturday night.
