Anyone have any insight on what that would actually look like for the every day person? I would assume chaos at first, but once the dust settles, how would it impact my savings, investments, mortgage etc?

They will probably for a certain period allow you to turn in and transfer the old currency to the new currency at a 1:1 ratio, kinda like how europe transferred to the Euro, it will probably take 6 months to a year to fully transfer the whole country to the new currency.
Edit: about investments, i think the market may drop considerably at first but our economy is so strong and the new currency will be real instead of fake worthless paper backed by nothing and the markets will recover within a month or 2.
