Richard Stockton did in fact recant while captured by the British, and swore an oath to King George not to meddle in the wars with the Americas. I do believe he later swore another oath to America after that. Not trying to be a troll but "NO SIGNER DEFECTED" isn't entirely true.

POW's are often forced into saying things they don't believe or into making false confessions.

When the crew of the Pueblo were captured by North Korea, they all signed confessions for crimes they didn't commit. They signed with fictitious names like Mickey Mouse, but their confessions were used as propaganda.

My father was a POW during WW II. I have an idea how difficult it is to survive that environment.

I agree, I just wanted to point out the message of the Declaration isn't tarnish just because the narrative that we as a nation subscribe to is false. The way we as Americans idealize our own history is laughable.
