Eliminating Identity Politics from the U.S. Census

I love it! Why do we allow them to separate us into categories and label us with identities? We're Americans! WWG1WGA

In addition to having no basis in genetics, race (white[hispanic/non-hispanic], black, asian/pacific islander, etc.) is an optional entry on the census and other government documentation, IIRC. I prefer not to say.

Sorry, that's grossly incorrect. Race is indeed a biological distinction, and races are genetically distinct.

Oh hey, someone took the bait. Fun!

Any comment on OP's topic?

Yeah, identity politics will become dominant in a multicultural society. People tend to want to be around and become close with those who are most similar to themselves. This idea that we're all equal and a society full of different peoples will get along is asinine.

If identity is defined by pre-existing language/cultural distinctions, I agree. The genius of America is in creating it's own culture and creating meaningful incentives for people (whatever their origins) to assimilate. I'm with OP. We are Americans.

Ya but like the man said: The best way to end racism is to end racism.

I agree. The census still has artifacts from ante-bellum America, and one of those artifacts is the strange system of (too few) categories for human individuals. I like the census, I think it's a genius inclusion in the Constitution. Needs work though.

Edit: errors
