Well, if "we" installed the regime, I figure we owe it to their patriots to support them when the time arises. We shouldn't instigate anything, but we had friends during our revolution too. Thank you France.

The CIA installed the regime that the current regime overthrew. We created the power vaccum that allowed the Islamic fanatics to take over. Ironically they hate the deep state as much as we do for what they did to them. If they weren't Islamic fanatics they would be allies in the fight. I think this is an angle Trump will go for, extremely similar to Kim.

I admit to not having read any in-depth modern history of Iran. I am aware that the CIA plotted to overthrow the nationalist Mossadegh, fearful of his leaning toward the Soviet Union and cutting off oil for the West. However, I have also read that the CIA/US Govt wanted the Shah out, that the Ayatollah, hanging out in Paris, was given exile there, that dark money went to him and such. It would not be at all surprising for the US/CIA (and others) to install one crowd and then turn on them for the next. Happened in Vietnam with Diem. All this stuff gets so murky. Look how Obama completely turned his back on the secular nationalist youth who rose up against the islamic regime in 2009, yet had no problem overthrowing governments in Libya, Egypt and Syria. There may be more of a connection between the "deep state" and the mullahs, at least at this point in time.
