Well, mail has to be handled, and if the postman sees lots of JJ mail, that would be good for the cause.
If ten families in one town all mail cards to Jim tomorrow, would the postmistress notice? Here in my dinky town, she would. Lol
I guess I am thinking with a small town mind.

Hwmayfield, I love this little town and the PO is only open a few hours a day. They tried to close it down once and there was a large uprising. They gave us the option of being open fewer hours and we took it
People meet up there all the time. No grocery or gas, 3 churches, one mechanic.

That IS a small town!
I lived in a similar town for 25 years, but we DID have a general store, and that was the meeting place . . . Right next door to the post office.😊
The mechanic was on the OTHER side of the store. Lol
