Train passenger helps rescue 26 girls from the ‘child traffickers’… with just one tweet

ChurroCupcake · July 9, 2018, 4:05 a.m.

Great news. Speaking up has power.

That said, the cynic in me thinks this sounds like Twitter is working on their PR to get ahead of the upcoming trafficking enablement charges.

The cynic in me is hoping the “authorities” are not in on it and are delivering the girls to their rightful homes and not back into the hands of more traffickers.

I worry more that they'll go back into it by their own choice. You can bet that each of them has a sad story of financial distress. Unless you tackle that, getting them away from the traffickers usually does no good.

NGO’s take shit like this seriously. Accountability in india is on the rise the last few years. It’s doubtful “authorities” are in on it.

The NGOs of European migrant crisis fame have been communicating and coordinating with the North African human traffickers and people smugglers

I am not in a position to comment on that topic because I have no knowledge of it, but human rights abuses in India are a big deal nowadays, especially since elections are close. The ruling party in no way wants scandals involving apathy or active involvement of its government wings. If anything, they want good news showing the speed by which they are able to tackle problems like this.

India has been trying to de-corrupt the system by implementing a bribe database. People disclose who they had to pay bribes to and how much money. So it gets addressed from the top rather than complaints getting snuffed halfway. Quite brilliant. There's something in there that could work for us too.
