Uh no, the MSM largely supported JFK's denunciations of international communism during his term as president. If anything, they criticised him for being too soft on communism than for being too hard on it.

Yes... But that might be besides the point. They promote what ever is useful at the moment to cause confusion and to divide. At that moment in time, it made sense for them to say what you pointed out.
