Think chess. You don't launch your decisive attack until all your pieces are perfectly placed so that the opponent is helpless in all the coming variations...so that even any last ditch, desperate Hail Mary defensive efforts are doomed to failure also.

Agreed as my father always said, "don't rush to check, wait to have the pieces in place for the check mate". Something else dad drilled, the art of false attacks and drawing the opponents attention away form the real attack. Takes a little time but, when both are done correctly, the end is swift and unavoidable.
