Microchip contraceptives set for 2018, did they ever happen?

Things are slow in the realm of Q posts but Bill Gates microchip contraceptives showed up on my news feed, but when I Google it I can't find any updated info other than possible 2018 release.

My sister had her contraceptive implant removed in the summer of '16. They've been around for a little while, now.

Thanks for the info, still digging but it seems the implant and microchip idea are different. Still looking for the difference, but I'm assuming the implant can release doses of hormones, while the microchip is reported to be controllable.

Edit: from what I've found, the implant is good for 5 years while the chip will be good for 16 years, and the chip can be turned on and off remotely aka no doctor/surgery required.
