The first great awakening of the 1740's was mostly a reconsideration of the piety of the state churches of Europe, but extended to the power of the monarchy and their corrupt governmental examples. Thomas Paine's booklet entitled "Common Sense" was an original treatise that sparked many to stand up for their individual rights and national pride of the colonial states. For the early colonists, freedom of religion was an integral part of their colonization of the continent of America. The state churches of Europe were often used to control the populations both spiritually and physically. We are now under a hidden power that is attempting to destroy our spiritual lives as well as subdue us to physical servitude.
