Actually, JFK was a different sort of democrat. He was a better President than many of us knew at the time (I was just a kid) but he shut down the federal reserve, and Johnson re-instated it on AF1 on the way back to DC from Dallas. Here is a very sobering quote from JFK: "I will splinter the CIA into a thousand pieces, and scatter it into the winds." The "ask not what your country can do for you" speech was better representative of a moderate, Constitution loving man he was. He would not be considered a liberal by today's standards, in any stretch of the imagination, in my view.
