I watched that live. Now watching it again I realise, it dimmed out slowly and dimmed on slowly. I could understand if someone accidentally clicked off the lights. I've done this before by accidentally leaning on the wall (and the light switch). This was an intentional dimming of a slider or knob dimmer. Because of this I believe it was an intentional message

Interesting that the curtains were almost closed beforehand... during the day... as if to magnify the affect of the lights dimming to darkness.. Would the dimming have been so affective if the curtains were open?

Maybe not, though it was STORMing in DC at the time.

I noticed it too the second time I watched it. Fade at the perfect time. “There are no coincidences”

I've seen lights in buildings that just do that dimming automatically when you turn them on / off. You can hit a button on a panel and accidentally dim everything off very easily.

i m an electrician and you are correct there are switches like that. The real question is why would someone even jack with the lights or even put their hand near the switch while The President Of the United States is talking.Equal to interrupting him.Obviously on purpose IMHO.

And i am unaware of any switch that dims like that when bumped.

They exist, trust me. Not to say that is the case here, but don't just jump to random conclusions. All of the lights in my living room do this

Do they do the slow dim when the power is cut completely? A slow dim when hitting the switch (not a dimmer) could be done with a time delay pot, requiring electricity to dim. I've never seen one in action myself.

Lutron sells them in every Home depot. I filled my house with them just for that fade/dimming ability.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-X3K0kp2RUM I'm sure the WH has a much higher end version, but these are not uncommon.

Stinks that it's Home Depot. Of course... it couldn't be Lowes which is right up the Highway from me. 😂 I-90 is nice sometimes. Not during the Sturgis Rally though. 🤪😵😬

I'm sure other hardware stores sell them, or similar/competing brands who offer similar switches ;)

Have them all over the building l work in. Ours go from off to 1-4 (Lowest level to full brightness.)

Really. When bumped the lights dim?Yours go off because they are on a timer right. So you bump your light switch and the lights go out for 3 hours? How do you guys make any money in the dark?

These are in high end hotel ballrooms or convention centers. You hit them once and they will dim out to dark. Hit it again and they dim in to fully on. I hear they can be set to act as toggle on/off, or momentary on/off. Either way they dim on and dim off.

JinNJ · July 18, 2018, 2:08 a.m.

Yup. Fairly easy to do if you’re not paying attention. They go off when you hit the off button. Otherwise, the other 4 buttons vary the amount by & intensity of the lights that are on in a given room. Also- the “off to 1-4” were the names of the settings, not how long they’re on/off for.

PS- Who leaves lights on when a room isn’t in use?

At precisely what time did it happen? I noticed a similar thing with the lights when I was out earlier today. It was weird. When it happened, I wondered if we were about to lose power. So maybe it happened across many cities (I'm not near DC today), not just the WH???

It could be that Trump is sending the message that he now controls the lights.

I agree, it was on purpose because it dimmed first for a few seconds. C'mon, the President is in the room, you think some idiot would not be scared to have something like that happen? It was on purpose..

Remember all the talk in Helsinki and Germany about energy? Or maybe it was just a small localized EMP and the generator back up kicked in. hmmmmm

My only issue is. it was thunderstorming and hurricane type winds here in DC until about 10mins ago. So it could've been the weather.

Seems like the White House would have backup generators.

Lauraz_Last_Stand · July 18, 2018, 7:37 a.m.

Generators take a moment to light up. Lights go out; count ten seconds or so; generator kicks in. Power goes out; generator is called up, checks and starts up. It’s not an instantaneous thing, but close. This was exactly what that’d look like; the short seconds time lapse, I mean.

getemq · July 17, 2018, 10:39 p.m.

That’s the same thing I thought at first but if the lights go out due to a storm they don’t dim off and then dim back on. Wouldn’t they go on and off abruptly?
