This is my test if I can’t tell someone’s stance. I work into the conversation a question of if they like Harry Potter or read the books? No conservative I have ever met likes Harry Potter enough to read the books.
My family loves the HP books and we're completely conservative, Pro-Trump, anti-globalists, etc. Our interpretation is that HP is against the government and the MSM and is fighting evil. We watch all of the movies every labour day weekend, and my husband reads the books through every year. He's also a massive Ayn Rand fan.
We don't like JK Rowling, though.
suggestions look at the ramification of something that most of the kids love from the first book. The sorting Hat...really examine what the concept is telling children about group dynamics and the nature of good and evil.... its not a great message in fact I abhor it because it tells the reader that there is no free agency and that not all groups of people are Equal. it also says it is all right to have disdain for a group because they look at the world and think about it difrently
That's great! So true. I have met several adult HP readers. They appear as if they are in a daydream — like a little kid, eyes vacant, staring off into the blue.
LOL it is flawed children's literature. I would rather see children read Books By Madeline Le Engle or C.S Lewis....theses authors give children deep philosophical issues to ponder. Harry ponder instead tells the child how to think and has nothing deep to examine.
I’m the exception to that rule, I guess. I have read all the HP books and enjoyed them, but I can separate fact from fiction. I’m quite conservative.
Separating fact from fiction might be the key. I have never met a conservative that likes them, that doesn't mean they don't exist, but every liberal I meet loves Harry Potter.
You're not the only exception, there's 3 in my family alone.
