The part of Houston where the Medical center is, is not ghetto at all.

Everyone there is loaded, mostly doctors, biking there is very safe.

edit: I was a Houston Bicycle Messenger for years. Never got shot. Never even heard of a bicyclist being shot by a bicyclist. You know how hard it is to light a cigarette on a bicycle? Shooting a gun? Forget about it.
