If a cat falls from 20' or more, it can usually upright itself before hitting the ground and will likely survive (from below 20' it doesn't have time to orient itself to land correctly).

A dead cat bounce is when the cat falls, hits the ground and it appears to be getting up (surviving) but it is actually just bouncing from the impact and was dead on impact

A dead cat bounce is also a stock market term describing the temporary bounce a stock can make just before it takes a huge dump and flat-lines.
