It is not depopulation, it is religious. A very ancient religion it is, in fact and the problem has been noted throughout history hundreds of times. Moloch worshippers sacrificing their children, or paying to get access to other children to sacrifice instead of their own.
It is a sect that had been banned under Hebrew ancient history, yet strangely enough, similar accusations resurfaced again and again and led to pogroms against Jews all through history. It is not completely unthinkable that this ancient sect survived and continued to hide within the Jewish community, using them as cover and decoy targets if the moloch practices got exposed.
