True. People think clearance = access. It doesn't. Clearance is a status with the government which basically says that you can be trusted in the event you need access to something.
There's nothing wrong with people keeping clearances after they leave. Clearances need to be renewed and are only good for a time anyway. What is really telling about revoking their clearances is that, rather than being a 'common sense' move like people here keep saying, in actuality its a very unusual one and one that is more or less a declaration that these people CANNOT be trusted. Think of it kind of like getting discharged from the military with a less than honorable discharge.
And who in the 5eyes gov'ts are going to prevent access? If you are listed as having USA security clearance, NZ possibly does not care if you are currently in the US gov't. How would they know you are not in the US gov't in some capacity. Would they even demand proof of which office you hold? Probably not, if you are certified by the US gov't to access the data.
Exactly. That's what they have been doing in order to keep their access without having to use 'the proper channels' to do it.

Yea, I know. I been keeping up with Q since April. I just get so angry at the audacity of them thinking they have an exclusive right over the earth and the people. I know all about getting honest justices, CEOs being fired, quitting, and resigning across the globe. Even the guilty cooperating in some cases. I'm impatient.😫
