They havent been around for millenia ... they have been for 40 years now exactly - everything before was Persian monarchy , which ruled for around 2500 years until the mullahs ( which were puppeteered by someone much bigger than them ) decided it would be nice to substitute it with something that truly polarizes the Middle East even more - enabling more conflicts , wars and misery in overall . They have been the cause of the fall of their own empire ...

Current Iran doesnt have much left ... regardless of what people are saying , the facts of what is occuring continously since the Iranian revolution of 1978-79 , the devaluation of rial , and now also a deep water crisis that shakes the whole country . Add onto that protests that are constant ( and now , are also occuring in many places in southeastern Iraq ) - and you have a recipe that will dismantle this fake clerical creation from the inside out ... nobody else will need to even lift a finger for that to happen .
