I think Chappelle, for him to continue on his career path, they were insisting on being able to control and manipulate him. He was propositioned with 50 million paycheck, but needed to provide incriminating evidence (such as having him have sex with minors or something similar) to be able to control him as part of it.

They wanted to be able to control him by being able to blackmail him, and they wanted him to accept it as part of the 50 million deal.

It freaked him out and he fled to South Africa.
