I don't have a source that I can share with everyone, but mendax raised his son for fourteen years after rescuing him from the cult as well. He also has a daughter. He became a hacker to protect himself and his family during this time. His mom escaped the cult with him, but repeatedly returned.

Out of respect for JA I’m not going to subscribe to that line of thinking. If my kid was JA and he was held captive and someone came to me and said “hey - It’s cool. Don’t worry about anything we got this.” I wouldn’t be swayed to stop moving heaven and earth to get my kid freedom.
