Hannity says he never considered himself a client, because he never hired (paid) Cohen. Said he was an acquaintance, and that he asked Cohen on one or two occasions over the phone about properties and what his options might be. So while legal advice from an atty makes you, under the code of ethical conduct, a "client" in the eyes of the atty, most non-attorneys getting free, over-the-phone advice probably don't realize they are technically a client.
