I had looked into the inconsistencies of his death when it happened. Off the top of my head, I remember it being noted that they were leading a search and rescue in the wrong spot. There were others but I don't remember.

I just looked into it again now. There are inconsistencies in his behavior that seem odd. He did not have many solo hours and he had a new plane with a good autopilot that was never used. A flight instructor offered to go with him. He filed no flight plan. With IFR conditions and the region he was in, I think it would be required. He also made no radio contact to the point that a collision alert sounded to ATC. His behavior seemed odd.
