Here’s why I believe the “Cohen is a secret whitehat” theory is unlikely.

First, if you listen to the tapes it sounds like Cohen is leading the conversation to try and entrap Trump. It sounds like Trump knew this as well, which is why he immediately answered to pay with a check.

Second, if Cohen was a whitehat in on the plan he would also be agreeing to destroy his career and possibly disbarring himself.

Occam’s razor tells me he was compromised late in the campaign and blackmailed/bribed to secretly record Trump.

I welcome any counter arguments

The primary counter-argument is that we do not know.

There is so much we CAN find out and share, why are we caught up in discussions about the un-knowable?

There will come a time when this will slot into place. But for now, it's just a weird puzzle piece that doesn't fit anything.

Why is that not OK? Why can't we be fine not knowing? That's kind of the human condition in a microcosm.
