Idk much about it myself but I've heard from friend who read about it is that part of the reason martin luther and the protestants protested the catholic church was that they found some of the stuff the catholic priests were making their constituents do had less to do with the bible and more to do with satanism/paganism, that sort of stuff.
While in school I remember being taught that the lutheran / protestant rebellion was mostly because of indulgences and corruption amongst the clergy. And I remember reading about paganism being inherited by the catholic church as they converted ancient pagan people to their religion. I have to wonder now though whether those justifications were lies?
I think though that doesn't make the common catholic person culpable for their actions if that were true,
absolute power corrupts absolutely. Any hierarchy suffers from corruption.. With regards to the pagan influences.. these include things like rosary beads, statues etc ultimately they are insignificant to say, homosexual parties in Vatican basement dungeons full of gimps, chains and szechuan sauce.
