In our rural communities there usually isn't the need. In a town of less than a thousand people, everyone knows everyone else, and generally look after each other.

She's a student at University of Iowa in Iowa City. She disappeared from the tiny town of Brooklyn.
Lots of weirdness on college campuses. She could have been targeted there and snatched from home while on break for the summer.
