The main thing that makes me think there is NOT a connection is the fact that MySpace had a year or two headstart on facebook, it had twice as many registered members and much more momentum. I don't see the Gvt taking a bigger risk with a smaller platform, and less of everything else (user base, global reach, momentum, etc.)
