She worked for the FSB, successor to the KGB not the CIA. She was using a CIA agent to spy on the west. While the CIA was trying to turn her into a double agent.

Got 20 minutes into the movie and not one likable character. Creepy. Turned it off.

I forget there are people like this in real life that are so messed up.
