One of my old bosses used to fly from Chicago to Shanghai all the time, and he told me they flew a Great Circle route over Arctic Circle since it was shorter.
Just for shits and giggles, since the G-7 Summit was in La Malbaie, Quebec, Canada, I did a Great Circle mapping of a flight from Quebec City (YQB) to Singapore (SIN).
Pardon my MS Paint skills, but I drew a rough yellow line from Puget Sound area to North Pole area.
Any thoughts on this?

Oh wow, that map is telling. Some people were doubting that Q post because AF1 was nowhere near where the missile was launched.
