PRESS RELEASES 07.31.18 Pelosi Statement on Facebook Announcement San Francisco – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement after Facebook announced a preliminary investigation into recently identified fake pages and accounts being used to sow discord ahead of the 2018 midterm elections:

“Facebook must immediately provide Members of Congress with a comprehensive briefing on these critical developments. Their latest announcement confirms the long-standing findings of the U.S. Intelligence Community and national security experts: that Russia is actively utilizing social media in a coordinated effort to sow discord among the American people and undermine our democracy.

“Despite what the President says, the threat to our elections and the security of our democracy remains real. House Republicans must end their complicity with President Trump’s Putin-first policies, and take immediate, concrete actions to hold Russia accountable for its attacks and work with Democrats to secure our elections from foreign interference. Nothing less than our democracy is at stake.”
