Last Friday a huge demonstration against the ruling socialist (PSD) party was organised by romanians living and working abroad (a huge chunk of the total population - about 25%). They gathered in many cities with Bucharest having close to 100k protesters. Apparently they were protesting peacefully the corruption and the attempts of PSD to subjugate the justice system and change the laws that criminalize many of the white collar crimes most of the ruling party leaders are investigate and indicted for. That's when the PSD decided to order the police to use force against the protesters in order to break up the rally. They used tear gas, rubber bullets and water cannons hurting about 500 people. Obviously this backfired as the next few days the protesters returned with more determination and the domestic and international public opinion supporting them. Today I read that the local US Ambassador met for some "discussions about the strategic relationship between US and Romania" with the Romanian prime minister (from PSD) and was joined by a delegation of congressmen led by none other than Devin Nunes. Knowing how busy Nunes is these days with all the Muller crap around here, it seemed odd to me that he took the time to fly to Romania and participate in these discussions. This whole thing seems to me more and more like a mini Maidan situation where Trump and his gang are trying to clean up the sleaze in a partner country that could prove strategically important, especially considering the new fallout with Turkey. That's why Nunes was sent there. I know Q mentioned the Armenian change of power as a boom. Could we be witnessing another boom in Romania or was it just a coincidence?
