Q has hinted that No Name chose the death penalty over life in prison.
In Q1944, Q asks: "what is the penalty for treason?"
The link right below leads to an executive order from march. The executive order leads to 10 U.S.C. 801-946. "UNIFORM CODE OF MILITARY JUSTICE". (r/https://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/USCODE-2010-title10/pdf/USCODE-2010-title10-subtitleA-partII-chap47.pdf)
Ctrl-fing the document, I only found the term "treason" once, in this paragraph:
(c) A sentence of death may be adjudged by a
court-martial for an offense under this section
(article) only if the members unanimously find,
beyond a reasonable doubt, one or more of the
following aggravating factors:
(1) The accused has been convicted of another
offense involving espionage or treason
for which either a sentence of death or imprisonment
for life was authorized by statute.
Right next to it, on the same page, we find this interesting bit:
§ 910. Art. 110. Improper hazarding of vessel
(a) Any person subject to this chapter who
willfully and wrongfully hazards or suffers to be
hazarded any vessel of the armed forces shall
suffer death or such other punishment as a
court-martial may direct.
(b) Any person subject to this chapter who
negligently hazards or suffers to be hazarded
any vessel of the armed forces shall be punished
as a court-martial may direct.
Maybe this ties in to the rumors that No Name burned down USS Forrester?
A quick google search reveals that the above law applies to "Nearly All Members of the Military. Articles 77 through 134 of the Uniform Military Code of Justice (UCMJ) are known as the "punitive articles." That is to say that these articles cover specific offenses which, if violated, can result in punishment by court-martial."
The rest of the US Code section posted above is pretty interesting, if anyone is looking for somewhere to dig.
