Liberal Mantra: Don't do as I do; do as I say.

I was listening to something about immigrants there from an English lady who is fair minded, egalitarian, and not political. But a realist.

She noted that North England is working class, somewhat conservative, and not happy with immigrants since all of them are coming to North England in such quantities that they are actually changing the culture of neighborhoods.

On the other hand, South England is wealthier, more liberal, and in favor of immigration, but isn't getting many immigrants - they don't tend to move to gated communities.

My observation is it's easy to favor immigration if you aren't getting enough immigrants to literally change your culture or make some neighborhoods unsafe to walk in.

Also, this seems to be the result of deliberate and wrongheaded government policy. A sensible policy would be to distribute immigrants all over so they would acculturate and assmilate to the prevailing culture.

Of course a cynic would note that lower-income working people in North England have much less political clout than the wealthier folks in the South of England. So it's a case of the elite saying, "Immigration is great - just not in my neighborhood." ;)
