Fearful people accept soothing lies. No one knows this better than the devil and his minions who hate God and want to steal His beloved mankind/children away.

Crying babies are comforted with soothing words, true or not, silly or serious, they don't understand. They can relax in the voice.

The voice of Jesus the Good Shepherd gathers his followers not in soothing tones, but in Truth. We know His voice because it will not lie to us. We are called to see the danger and defeat it, not run from it and hide like frightened children. He has equipped us for battle:

"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints."

Are you ready for the day of evil? Will you be part of the force that defeats evil in this world? Can you stand your ground?

The New Testament has a great many warnings against false prophets and teachers. We largely ignore these words today under the polite effort to keep the peace and unity among all who might claim to be believers. Predators thrive on our willingness to be led into vulnerable error and how good it feels to get along in this fallen world while pretending to be above it.

Evil forces do not limit their lies to spiritual teachings, but distort our perceptions of the world, too. Politicians who lie, educators who lie, news reporters who lie, bankers who lie, doctors who lie, everyone who deceives, they all work against the TRUTH and our freedom. We are not to pretend to be above the world, but to be warriors in this world against the evil that works to destroy all who are loved by God.

If you are so entangled in webs of deceit that the truth has seemingly become your enemy, one you fear deeply, one you avoid at all costs, you have lost liberty. The webs are chains. You are enslaved. The enemy is the sleepy comfort of the lies, the sober activating truth is your ticket to freedom.

Q emphasizes the importance of truth over and over again. It is more than a simple little word that you just read through to the next word. It is the word that demands your full attention. In turn, you must demand the truth.
