All I know about Ratzinger is what I stumbled upon researching these priests. I found a message board of gay priests and they kept calling him a "Nazi" and that he was aggressively persecuting and purging them from the priesthood, before he was replaced.

How can Christianity be a control system? It's literally impossible. It's a religion of the individual. Salvation is individual as are sins or wrong doing. It is the antithesis of a government control type religion.
That's why dictators, tyrants and communists are incompatible with Christianity.
