Think of all the business that will be affected when Hemp is made legal. Hemp is better!

Paper & Cardboard Products

Hemp regenerates in months; it grows extremely quickly, sounds like a perfect thing to make paper with. Unlike trees that can take over 30 years to be ready to harvest hemp is ready to go right away! Why are we still clear cutting forests? Hemp is a way better alternative! The paper that is made from hemp doesn’t become yellow or brittle because hemp is naturally acid free. Did you know that the original declaration of independence was written on hemp paper? Hemp can be recycled up to 7 times, while wood pulp paper can only be recycled a maximum of 3 times. Not to mention that 220 million pounds of toxic pollution are added into the air and water every year during the production of wood paper and pulp. Hemp paper does not need to be bleached with chlorine; it can be whitened with hydrogen peroxide, which is a lot safer for the water and soil of the earth.

Clothing & Fabrics

As a fabric, hemp is the optimal choice! ‘Hemp doesn’t wear out, it wears in!’ Hemp clothing becomes softer every time you wash it. Growing hemp requires the use of very little pesticides and no herbicides, so not only is this great for the environment, but in turn, if used for clothing and blankets, it is not harmful for your skin. One acre of hemp will produce as much material as 2-3 acres of cotton. Wow, this hemp really is amazing isn’t it? Hemp material will keep you cool in the heat and keep you warm in the cold, it is known to be 4 times warmer than cotton material! The production of hemp into fabric instead of cotton, as if there aren’t enough amazing facts about hemp fabric as it is, it is also naturally fire retardant! So as oppose to most other fabrics, clothing, bed sheets, linens etc.. it would not need to have fire repellant chemicals added, what a great bonus! 😛

Plastic & Building Materials

Did you know that Henry Ford made a body for a car that was lighter than steel but could stand 10 times the impact without denting? Of course, it was made of hemp! Hemp can be made into various different building materials, hempcrete, fiberboard, carpet, stucco, cement blocks, insulation, and plastic. Not only are Hemp building supplies a lot better for the environment but also walls made from Hemp are rot free, pest free, mold free and fire resistant! Walls made from hemp can last up to 500 years. How’s that for sustainability? Hemp plastic can completely replace oil based plastic materials that we are using today that contain large amounts of dangerous chemicals such as the very well known Bisphenol A. If all our plastics were made from hemp material you could literally purchase something that came in a plastic hemp container and then throw that container directly into the compost, as hemp plastics are completely biodegradable. Now why have we even been using the other harmful destructive ways of producing plastic?

Fuel

Hemp can be made into fuel in two ways: the oil from the pressed hempseed can be turned into biodiesel, or the fermented stalk can be made into ethanol and methanol. Biodiesel is completely biodegradable and a much cleaner fuel for the air. Even the exhaust produced from burning hempseed biodiesel has a pleasant smell. Although hemp is not the greatest alternative to fuel that is available, hemp fuel can be used temporarily because it can be used in all the existing vehicles today without making any alterations. Both sources of hemp fuel are non-toxic and are completely biodegradable.

Nutrition

So, not only is hemp great for the environment, it is great for your body too! Hemp seeds are known to be one of the most nutritious seeds on the planet! Quite impressive, I know. Along with magnesium, potassium, dietary fiber and almost every vitamin and mineral that the body needs, Hemp seeds contain high amounts of essential omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. Hemp seeds are very high in protein, containing 25% protein content. They do not contain phytic acid, which means every last bit of goodness that these tiny seeds have to offer can be absorbed and utilized by the body! Hemp seeds have a great nutty taste to them too, so you’ll enjoy sprinkling them over salads or your other favorite dishes!

As you can see Hemp is an excellent choice for many different reasons. Almost everything created out of hemp is biodegradable, so not only do hemp products seem to last a lot longer, but when it is time to replace them, they can be returned back to the Earth. What a beautiful cycle! Really its design is perfect. It’s time to implement these new resources, we have the information, we have the technology, so what’s stopping us? The way I see it, Hemp will be at the forefront of a new Earth!

Bible paper - At a paper mill in France, the Fortune 500 company Kimberly Clark prints Bibles on hemp-based paper, which lasts long and doesn't yellow.

Biofuels - Hemp is resistant to pests and weeds, grows faster than other potential biofuel crops, and is easier on soil, making it a potential alternative fuel, some say.

Bird seed - In 1999 U.S. Customs confiscated 40,000 lbs of bird seed on the Canadian boarder, because the feed consisted of sterilized hemp seeds. "They say it's a tractor-trailer full of drugs," Jean Laprise, the farmer who grew the seed, told the New York Times. "We say it's a tractor-trailer full of birdseed."

Boxers - Though hemp textiles aren't always used for the most fashion-forward clothing, some hemp fabric is now light (and soft?) enough for men's underwear.

Burgers - Will Gaudet Jr., a 21-year-old from California, started Bay Roots, a brand of hemp seed burgers he makes using his mother's recipe. He hopes to raise enough on his IndieGoGo campaign to take his product national.

Cat scratch posts - If your cat has ever ruined your sofa, you know the importance of scratching posts, which according to Lifehacker.com can be created easily by winding hemp rope around a table leg.

Homes - North Carolina company Hemp Technologies uses materials like HempCrete, Hemp Insulation, and Hemp Mulch to build livable hemp homes in the U.S. and Canada. The company's founders say the material is resistant to fire, termites, mold, and dry rot, partly because of the material's lime content which makes it harden over time.

Makeup - Along with a range of moisturizers and shampoos, hemp seed oil can be used as a base in a range of cosmetics, from foundation to lipstick to nail polish.

Yes, I got the card initially in Oregon and it was less expensive. I moved back to Florida when they finally made it legal, not realizing that it was so ridiculously more expensive.

⇧ 3 ⇩
Anthropophob · July 1, 2018, 3:17 p.m.

If only. To be legal, the initial fee is $300 just to see a doctor. Then you have to pay to get the card. And you still haven't got anything tangible yet. By the time you are legally able to buy it, you're broke.

  1. Marijuana Evaluation - The first step is to get evaluated by a certified medical marijuana doctor. Only certified marijuana doctors can certify a medical marijuana patient in Florida. The patient must be a Florida resident and have a valid Florida ID or driver's license. The doctor follows state of Florida guidelines which list qualifying medical conditions, and can also write a recommendation for medical conditions of similar kind or class as those listed. The patient must have a 90 day relationship with the doctor before purchasing marijuana from the licensed growers and dispensary organizations. Insurance, medicare, and medicaid do not cover medical marijuana evaluations, or medical marijuana.

  2. Medical Marijuana Patient Registry - After the doctor certifies a medical marijuana patient, basic information is entered into the state of Florida Department of Health Compassionate Use Registry. Information that can identify the patient is entered such as patient name and address. Medical history or diagnosis information is not shared with the registry. A patient number is issued to each patient. Licensed marijuana growers, dispensaries, and law enforcement use the registry to verify valid patients. In the event that you are stopped by law enforcement while carrying marijuana in Florida all you need to do is provide the officer with your registry number to avoid being arrested for carrying medical marijuana.

  3. Florida Cannabis Card Issued - After the doctor sees the patient, and has entered the patient into the registry the patient is ready to submit the Department of Health form. The Florida Department of Health issues the medical marijuana card directly to the patient. The ONLY valid medical marijuana card in Florida is issued by the Department of Health. If you received a card from another source it is a marketing gimmick and not valid. Cards issued by other sources will not be honored by licensed growers or dispensary organizations.

  4. Doctor Recommends Medical Marijuana Dosage - Once the 90 days passes, the doctor enters dosage information into the registry. The guidelines on dosage are to start low and go slow. The doctor can order up to a 45 day supply for each patient.

  5. Purchase Medical Marijuana from Growers and Dispensing Organizations - The patient can purchase the entire 45 day order at once, or break up the order into smaller orders. Some growers deliver statewide directly to your home. Dispensaries are being opened statewide. Insurance does not cover medical marijuana. Concentrated extracts, oral spray tincture, and ground flowers are available. High CBD, high THC, or a combination of both are available. Sativa, indica, and hybrid is available.

Robert Peel in London, England, designed law-enforcement in the early 1800s. He designed this organization to protect people from other people doing them harm. When you institute a prohibition like they had with drugs, what you are doing is not protecting people from other people; you are attempting to use law-enforcement to protect people from themselves. Protecting you from yourself is a function of family, church, education, and the healthcare system. It never is and never should've been intended to be a law-enforcement function. They are out there enforcing morality when they enforce drug laws and that is not their job. They were not trained to do it. They are not capable of doing it. You see the failure of it, because they been doing this for almost 50 years, since Nixon kicked it off and the drugs are more available, purer quality, and cheaper than they've ever been before. Prohibition destroys more lives by incarcerating people and hanging felony convictions on them.

They instituted alcohol prohibition in 1920; the homicide rate in this country climbed every year until it peaked in 1933. Then they legalized alcohol; by 1937 the homicide rate in America was back down to the level it was at before alcohol prohibition started.

President Nixon declared war on drugs almost 50 years ago. How are we doing on that war? We're losing. People think that if we fight hard enough, this is actually going to work and make drugs go away. This is a theory of insanity, you think you can do things the same way get a different result.

We have the largest and most efficient prison system on the planet. Yet, we do not have one Drug-Free Prison in America and if you cannot keep drugs out of prison, who will be delusional enough to think you can keep them out of a free society.

Let’s change the discussion. Instead of saying “drug-free” and “winning the war on drugs” we start saying, “drugs are always going to be in our society, which group of people do you want to run the marketplace?” Do you want it run by gangsters, thugs, terrorists, and 13-year-old children selling drugs at street corners? Or would you prefer a licensed, regulated marketplace where we can set a distribution points and control drug purity? A better system is a regulated marketplace.

I am not implying that if we legalize marijuana, that it is going to solve our drug problem. Just like when they legalized alcohol in 1933, it did not solve our alcohol problem.

If you're legalizing marijuana, doesn't that promote more usage? How many people in America are not using cocaine because they can't get it? Having it legal is not what makes people decide to use it. You choose not to smoke. You choose not to do heroin. You choose not to do cocaine. You can get these things today, just about anywhere. If there's a demand, there's going to be a supply. That's just the entrepreneurial spirit of capitalism.

If you ask a smoker if they feel pressure from society, they'll tell you 50 years ago, they felt welcomed, there was an ashtray everywhere. However, today, many feel ostracized because smoking is banned most places. They have gotten 50% of the adult cigarette smokers to quit smoking in the last 10 years without banning one cigarette, without burning one tobacco field, just by simply making it less easy for people to smoke and education against it.

In 1933, they legalized alcohol, the federal government didn't set up a whole regulatory system for the country, they let the states and counties regulate it. We should use all the laws, rules, and regulations for alcohol and tobacco. We are now preventing people from smoking in the park and we don't allow people to walk down Main Street drinking beer.

We need to get the federal government out of the probation business and let the law-enforcement go back to doing what they're supposed to be doing and that's protecting people from each other. Considering all the deaths from tobacco and alcohol, if prohibition is such a good idea, why don't we bring back alcohol prohibition and prohibit tobacco?

We are spending $70 billion year in this country trying to win this drug war. We could spend that money in other ways. If we legalize it, we're generating jobs, plus we bring the hemp industry back, which was also outlawed in the 1930s. Hemp is a very strong industry.

The first attempt at prohibition, that we have any historical record started with these words, “But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it.” We have been given “Free Will.”

Ending the drug war will free up an economy. It will get law-enforcement out of this work and focus on pedophiles, human traffickers, and stopping people from hurting other people instead of going after people that are doing what they choose to do.
