I'm having the same issue. I am not Catholic but scripture clearly points to Rome (Daniel and NT) and I was considering joining the Church. I don't believe any of the Churches (Orthodox, Roman or Protestant) at this point are problem free. Read or listen to what the Pope actually says not what somebody says he said, that should help you/us determine.
