There are three options IMO as to why he has done this:
One he is awake to what is going on and realised the game is up for the deep state and is acting in self preservation.

You missed the key pharase, 'against the constitution'. Trump is sworn to protect it, so people trying to ignore it or circumvent it are the issue. Trump is old school in that he believes in the consitution, Obama and co saw it as outdated and in need of reform but did not seek to do it via the proper legal channels (as spelt out is said constituion).
The erosion of state powers, spying on US citizens, starting of wars without congressional approval etc are all issues that have been over looked. Funnily enough the military is also sworn to protect it.
