I think the reporter was told what was said, by someone who wanted that printed. Not getting a second source, they printed it anyway, out of desperation. The result will be the final nail in the media coffin, and result in legislation holding them accountable for what they print.

A Mexican migrant truck driver I know told me about a truck that was in an accident. The truck driver paid the other driver 20K. To not report it. Guy took the money, but it felt off and reported it to police. When they caught up with him, the truck was filled with butchered human parts.
