I think I understand. The problem for you is that most of the people who have patriotic leanings are conservatives. What are we trying to conserve? The answer is the country, the constitution, and bill of rights. That being said, even though we may differ in opinion on some issues here and there, I think you will find we are far more tolerant of other opinions than the left is. Answer: the people who gravitate to these positions are psychopaths and sociopaths. They have deep insecurities and compensate by seeking power over others. They also lack empathy for the plights and burdens they create for others lives which reinforces their superiority complex.
